Kiambu

Bar owners in Kiambu have vigorously opposed a move by their Gvn. James Nyoro to have all liquor outlets closed by Friday this week.

They said the operators had already suffered alot since they have been out of business since Covid19 strike over 3 months ago.

The bar owners said it’s unfortunate that a little life line extended to the the some liquor outlets to sell take away drinks was now being targeted by Gvn. Nyoro.

They now want Nyoro to state where they will take their stock and get cash for their daily livelihood not to mention loans and rents.

“The rise of Covid19 cases in Kiambu has extremely to do with the sale and consumption of liquors. It is mainly poor preparedness by the County Government. Just like his precedessors,Kabogo and Waititu,Nyoro is trying to use Liquor trade as scapegoat. This move will fail and propel Nyoro’ political demise,” a bitter bar owner warned.

He said eyes were now on MCAs who will support the move saying their days are numbered.

The trader said due to subtle preparedness, Mombasa Covid19 cases were going down while in Kiambu the number was rising because of misguided approach.Kiambu has decided to fight the Pandemic through PR propaganda machine,he said.

He said if take aways are banned, people will now sell liquor in their houses and by hawking, proving Nyoro wrong and thereby risking many lives. Before that aways were around the practices had become the norms of the day. It’s expected that the Kiambu and the National Bar owners association will move to court to stop the closure.

Nyoro has vowed those who will flout the policy will not only be arrested and charged, but will have their licenses cancelled for good.
