Eastleigh traders in Nairobi have threatened to close their businesses every week from Wednesday to Friday claiming unlawful invasion of hawkers outside their shops.

The traders chairman Ibrahim Hussein said that about 20,000 hawkers have converted the trader’s spaces outside shops into their markets out of whom only 200 hawkers are genuine.

Hussein said that 45 shopping malls in the area closed on Wednesday to rampage the existence of hawkers rambling the area.
He argues that the traders are unable to open because their trading entrance and exits are blocks.

The vendors have following the unlawfulness of hawkers barricaded major roads in the area. They are petitioning Governor Evans Kidero and City Hall to intervene and solve the matter with immediate effect.
