As higher learning institutions anticipating reopening in January 2021, most institutions have continued to put in place measures to control the virus.

The government has at the same time been conducting inspections to ensure that all institutions (both public and private) allowed back to offer studies have put in place containment measures.

The government has at the same time been monitoring the quality of courses offered by different institutions.

In light of the initiative, Mount Kenya University has hosted government inspectors from Kenya National Qualification Authority (KNQA).

The inspectors monitored the university’s preparedness with an aim of accrediting it as a Qualification Awarding Institution (QAI).

The opening ceremony was attended by KNQA Director General Dr. Juma Mukhwana who was escorted by other representatives. Prof. Stanley Waudo, MKU Vice-Chancellor welcomed the team and echoed that the University management was ready and willing to cooperate with KNQA during their 5-day inspection period.

The KNQA is mandated by the government to coordinate and harmonize education, training, assessment and quality assurance of all qualifications awarded in the country; with the view to improving quality and international comparability.

MKU Programmes are already accredited by Commission for University Education and other respective programme regulating bodies and councils.

After a successful inspection MKU programs qualification will be registered by KNQA. The KNQF is part of Kenya’s international commitments to develop an accurate, reliable and robust database of all qualifications in the country.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council has authorized having face-to-face examination for final year Community Oral Health Students.

In view of the foregoing, MKU has informed the concerned students that the reporting dates will be from the 14th to the 19th of September, 2020.
