Police officers have been advised to plan for their retirement early enough and shape their social life in order to avoid frustrations.

Waweru Njoroge, a businessperson from Witeithie in Juja, Kiambu County said that most officers forget to marry and become good parents as a result of infrequent job transfers.

He pleaded with them to consider striking a balance between their daily operations and family life to avoid regrets in the future.

“Am imploring you officers to organize your lives for a better future. You cannot work tirelessly to serve and forget you have another life. It’s important to strike a balance between work, marriage and other facets of life,” said Njoroge.

Speaking during a farewell party for the outgoing Witeithie Chief Inspector Aden Dekow who was transferred to Meru, the businessperson insisted that men in uniform should live a normal life that encompass enjoying their marriages and having a good time with their families.

Juja Sub County Police Commander Dorothy Migarusha echoed Njoroge’s sentiments and urged her colleagues to prepare for the future in advance.

“As we continue to serve, let us not forget where we came from. Let us live knowing we will go back home in whatever circumstances. Let us also put our families together and be open to them on our modalities of operations,” she said.

The police boss also urged the officers to keep track of the kids they have sired “in different places” and support them conclusively.

At the same time, Witeithie residents rooted for establishment of a fully-fledged police station at the sprawling village to heighten security as well as bring closer home policing services to the informal settlement.

Installation of a new station at Witeithie which was gazetted in February would mean separation from the current Juja Police station.

Reacting to the call by residents, Migarusha said the move would bring justice systems closer to the people in line with devolution intentions.

“We will now require infrastructures to be in place alongside having other government machinery,” she said.
