MKU ranked among 10 best universities in Kenya

A fourth-year Mount Kenya University student died after falling from the 7th floor of the institution’s Chancellors tower on Monday afternoon.

The student who was pursuing a Bachelor of Science Agriculture and Rural Development suffered serious injuries on the head and the legs and succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.

According to newly deployed Thika West deputy police Commander Daniel Kitavi, police got the report on time, rushed and rescued him.

“Police officers rushed to the scene and were able to rescue him but he died while undergoing medication at Thika Level Five Hospital where he had been rushed,” he said.

Kitavi said that the student did not leave behind a suicide note.

Preliminary police investigations reveal that the student was depressed and had lost hope in life.

“We were not able to immediately establish the reason behind his cause of action but I think it’s a kind of depression or stress,” added Kitavi.

Addressing journalists at Thika Police station, Kitavi urged youngsters to consider speaking out their issues to counselors of people they think can help them instead of taking their own lives.

“Don’t take your life when there are people you can talk to and get assisted. Speak to counselors, express yourself.” he said.

His body has since been taken to General Kago funeral home as police continue with investigations.

Students who spoke to press on conditions of anonymity revealed that he had informed them on his intentions but could not believe him.

“It has caught us with a lot of disbelief, we initially thought he was joking only to hear that he had executed his mission,” a student said.
