The longest serving mayor of Thika Douglas Kariuki Mundia is dead.

Thika residents and leaders led by Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina and Ex-Councillors Forum chairman Kiambu county Ng’ang’a Wanjukira eulogized with the family of Mundia describing him as a legendary leader during his time.

“We have lost a brave man who fearlessly fought for what rightfully belonged to people. I remember he single-handedly fought for Kiandutu land when some people were about to grab some pieces,” Hon Wainaina told Latestnewskenya.com

The law maker also urged Kiambu governor James Nyoro to bring back life to Thika town through the Thika Municipal budget.

Nominated MCA John Njiru who also served as a councillor in the defunct Municipal council said Mundia left a legacy of Thika as the cleanest town in Kenya among other achievements.

Mundia was elected mayor of Thika in 1968 and served in that capacity for more than 15 years when he left office in 1992 after quitting the then ruling party KANU to join the opposition.

Family members confirmed that Mundia who has been ailing for a long time died on Thursday night after developing complications.
