She revealed that Kenya Scouts Association, an institution that is embedded in every county and in all schools was brought on board to facilitate a sustainable model of reaching out to all children in Kenya,

“We are going to every region which were formerly known as provinces. With the help of Rovers in the association, we are able to pass across safety messaging to all children in schools. This partnership is not only enhancing safety but has also created jobs for the youth especially those involved in translation of videos from English to Swahili in our bid to contextualize the content to Kenyan communities,” said Kasina.

Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene expressed the need for enhanced safety measures in the use of internet platforms to strengthen protection of youngsters from harm by introducing age-appropriate privacy settings and controls.

“It’s been troubling to see young children watching harmful content on the internet. There are sites where children should not access and the safe together initiative will help us monitor and regulate access to certain sites by the children. Cyberbullying is also real and we should therefore not expose children to everything,” said the VC.

He however noted that the platform has created numerous opportunities for youngsters to make a living and encouraged the youth to maximize on them to better their lives.

“Social media is a great tool that youngsters are using to make money and we also hope Tiktok will grow to start monetizing content to create more opportunities. As an institution, we have taken a bolder step to enhance and support content creation by availing quality equipment, free internet and advice to our children,” added Munene.
