As the D-day for the 47 counties across the country to know their revenue share fate continues to near, leaders from Mt Kenya region continue to champion for a one man, one vote, one shilling formula as recommended by Commission for Revenue Allocation (CRA).

Gatundu North MP Wanjiku Kibe has thrown her weight behind the disputed formula that could see some counties gain while others loose should senators give the proposal their nod.

The MP says that Mt Kenya region has for a long time suffered low allocation despite being the greatest revenue contributor in the country.

She said that the region has been overly modesty when agitating for its rightful resources.

“Our eyes are wide open and we would want to know who is for us as central region and who is against us. We have been shy when demanding for resources yet we have so many development challenges to tackle. It’s time we get what we deserve based on our population,” she said.

The first time MP insisted that fairness will only be achieved if the national cake is distributed based on population.

She implored on Mt Kenya region senators to speak in one accord as the formula would significantly benefit the region.

At the same time, the lawmaker said that the expansive region should never again be used as a voting system yet discriminated against when it comes to resources allocation.

The senate adjourned a special session convened to debate the contentious third basis for sharing revenue among the 47 counties.

This is the fourth time the speaker adjourned the debate on the disputed revenue formula.

The new formula has thrown President Uhuru Kenyatta between a hard and a rock place to either appease his restive Mt Kenya backyard while maintaining a good working relationship with his former political rival-turned-brother Raila Odinga over the antagonistic revenue sharing formula.

Should the senators give the Tuesday motion their nod, counties from arid and semi-arid areas are likely to lose Sh17 billion in allocation.

Among the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) are Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Turkana, Tana River, West Pokot, Lamu and Mandera.
